
Hassan Al Thawadi is the dynamic CEO of the Qatar 2022 Bid Committee. A graduate in law from Sheffield University, England, in 2010 Hassan has been Director of the Legal Department at the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), an organisation founded by the State of Qatar in 2005 to diversify the country´s economy.
QIA has recently invested in Porsche, Volkswagen, and Barclays Bank as well as establish a joint venture with the New York Stock Exchange. With his global business experience, he is ideally positioned to promote the Bid around the world. A passionate football player, Hassan is delighted to be driving the bid's goal of becoming the world's first compact World Cup™.
"For a young nation, we have a long football tradition. I used to play attacking left-back for Qatar Club, and that is how I see myself at the helm of the Bid Committee. Pushing things firmly forward. Why? Because football in Qatar 2022 is our shared destiny."
Al Thawadi is also the Chairman of the 2022 FIFA World Cup LLC, which is a joint venture between FIFA and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) to organise and staging the world’s biggest football championship in 2022 in Qatar. In 2013, he was also appointed to be part of the FIFA’s World Cup Organising Committee, which is the committee responsible for all matters related to the FIFA World Cup as Special Advisor.
He is a board member of Katara Hospitality, Qatar International Islamic Bank and Msheireb Properties. In addition, he serves as the Joint Advisory Board member at Northwestern University Qatar, and Advisory Council member at Hamad bin Khalifa University (College of Humanities and Social Sciences) and Qatar University (College of Business and Economics).
A keen all-around sportsman, Hassan´s heart lies with football, having played for Qatar Club during his childhood. He is a devoted supporter of his local team, Al-Sadd, as well as being a passionate supporter of Real Madrid in international football."
Al Thawadi can speak four different languages (Arabic, English, Spanish and French).
